Former Ogden Mustang Ilya Bobko has signed with the Knoxville Ice Bears in the Southern Professional Hockey League for the 2018-19 season.

Bobko played for the Mustangs for stints in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. He had 41 points in 51 career games, playing the majority of the 2014-15 season in Ogden and returning to Ogden at the trade deadline of the 2015-16 season for the playoff run. Earlier that season, he stayed home in Belarus and worked his way on to the national U20 team, competing in the World Junior Hockey Championships against a host of now-NHL players. Last season, Bobko played in the top professional league in Belarus.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to play in the SPHL,” Bobko said. “It’s a big step in my hockey career. I’ve worked hard for a last couple years to make it real. I always remember my time in Ogden. It was a great experience for me, my first visit to America. I was growing up as a hockey player and as a person there. I’ve met a lot of good people and friends in Ogden, and I want to tell thank you to everyone who was helping and supporting me there.”

Bobko is the 9th former Mustang to sign a professional contract. See where other Mustang alumni have moved on to on our Mustangs Alumni page.
