The Ogden Mustangs started off the second half of their schedule with a 7-1 win over the visiting Lake Tahoe Icemen Saturday night at The Ice Sheet.
The win puts the Mustangs at 24-2-3 this season.
Matus Spodniak led the way for the Mustangs with two goals and two assists in the game. Alex Forbes scored what would stand as the game-winning goal and added two assists. Brett Robinson had a goal and an assist. Austin Shea had two assists. Sage Fleming scored his first as a Mustang. Max Dorfman and Thomas Hargrave had the Mustangs’ other two goals.
Vladimir Cibulka stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced in the game, continuing to lead Western States Hockey League goaltenders in every major statistical category. Early in the game, when the Mustangs led just 1-0, he made the save of the game on a breakaway attempt by Tahoe’s top player Ivan Radetskyi.
Saturday’s game was a day delayed. The series was supposed to start Friday night, but got pushed back a day due to inclement weather halting Tahoe’s travel.
The two teams now square off again Sunday at noon and Monday at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the series.
