The Ogden Mustangs congratulate team captain Jake Meure on his commitment to Buffalo State College. Meure is the first NCAA commitment of the 22-23 season, placing himself in one of the strongest conferences of Division III hockey: The SUNYAC Conference.
The franchise forward has been an essential piece of the Mustangs forwards for the last three season. Meure states, "I knew Ogden was one of the best places to play junior hockey: The coaches, the fans, the facilities, everything about it is top notch."
Coach Orlando had numerous great things to say about his time working with Meure. "Jake is a great hockey mind and his passion for the game is evident. Over the last 3 seasons we’ve seen Jake make big strides in rounding out his game. He‘s very deserving of his chance to compete in the SUNYAC conference next season. Jake’s skillset and compete level are assets that he needs to lean on going into college hockey. It has been a pleasure getting to know Jake and help mold his game into where he is today. We are excited to watch him succeed at the next level."
Jake’s interest in Buffalo has been growing over the past two years. The Bengals Head Coach, Steve Murphy, showed an immediate interest in Meure in his first season with the Mustangs back in 2020.
Jake is currently 4th on the Ogden Mustangs in all-time point scoring. With the 3rd and 2nd place spot within grasp, Meure looks to close out the season strong. Jake already surpassed his point total from last season, doubling up on his goal total collectively from the first 2 seasons. His creativity, both in the offensive zone and on the powerplay, have largely contributed to the offensive juggernaut that is the Ogden Mustangs.
Jake will be missed in Ogden. Being both a fan favorite and one of the all-time leading scorers, he created a legacy over the past 3 seasons. When asked how he would like the fans to remember his time with the team, Meure says, "I’d like to be remembered as a player who left it all on the ice. I’m excited to get to New York but I’m definitely going to miss my Ogden family and the Mustangs community."
Fall 2023, Jake Meure will pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management from Buffalo State College.
