Last week, the Mustangs made a big move to shore of their defensive-core and acquired defenseman Stanislav Dosek from the Boston Jr. Bandits (NCDC) at the trade deadline.
Dosek comes to the Mustangs after appearing 38 games for the Jr Bandits this season. He scored four goals and nine assists while amassing 58 penalty minutes for his former team. Before competing in the NCDC, Dosek also spent a season in the NAHL with the Janesville Jets. He appeared in 54 games (three in the playoffs) while scoring fifteen points.
The 6'2", 185 lbs defenseman from Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic already looks to be another excellent addition to the Mustangs roster after debuting last weekend against the Seattle Totems. He played in all three contests and scored his first point 5:02 into the opening period of Friday night's game. He is a physical and quick-moving defenseman and displayed both traits admirably in an impressive showing at the Ice Sheet.
"I know that Ogden is an excellent organization with outstanding leadership with a hard-working and highly skilled team. Ogden is a great place to stay with beautiful nature and very friendly people. I am happy to be here and cannot wait to be on the ice."
He began his junior career in his home country of the Czech Republic, where he played with the Motor Ceske Budejovice program until making his NAHL debut. During the 2017-18 season, he was selected to play for the Czech Republic U19 team and appeared in three games.
Fellow countryman Patrik Tuma was more than thrilled to learn of Dosek's arrival. Tuma and Dosek have been paired together on defense and early returns suggest elevated play from both players.
"I was so excited and happy that another Czech player was coming here. I remember playing against him and know him through my best friend; it is going to be fun competing and battling together. I already love playing together on the same pairing because he brings more out of me as a player. We have the same hockey school background, so it is easy to understand each other when we signal and communicate speaking Czech. He is the best defensive partner I have had in my hockey career."
Tuma added, "I think I can speak for both of us that we love to play together. Our vision is to continue to play as we did against Seattle and give 100% to the team. We also don't plan on giving up any goals. We're ready to win a Thorne Cup!"
Although Dosek's time with the Mustangs might be brief, he intends to have it remembered forever with just one goal in mind: "Win the Thorne Cup."
Watch Dosek and the rest of the Mustangs next at the Ice Sheet during the Inaugural Ogden Mustangs Players Skills Challenge on February 29th at 7:30 PM.
