OGDEN, UT. – The Ogden Mustangs, proud members of the United States Premier Hockey League, are excited to announce the signing of Antonio Tarantino for the 2021-22 season.
Tarantino (Fremont, CA) has officially been a Mustang for several weeks now, but has taken little time to acclimate himself to the hockey in the Mountain Division. A player who was closely watched during the Ogden Tryout Camp in July, he is also another San Jose Jr. Sharks alumni to join the Mustangs.
"Being here in Ogden has been great so far considering not knowing what to expect but knowing a few guys on the roster helped me settle in. I just tried to arrive here, work hard from the start and thankfully I was able to grab a spot on the team. It's really been awesome so far and I am having a blast."
The Northern California product is a 5'11, 170 lbs talented and athletic goaltender. His ability to flip the switch has already been showcased with a 35-save shutout of the high-powered Northern Colorado Eagles last Saturday night. In 2020-21, Tarantino was a perfect 3-0 for the Sheridan Hawks (NA3HL) while sporting a 2.27 GAA and .912 SV% in four games played. He is just two years removed from winning District and State Championships with the Jr. Sharks alongside current teammates Cade Herrera and Jake Meure.
"After getting into a few games last year at the Junior level, I had a better expectation of the speed at this level. The experience I was able to gain also helps me pass that along to our other guys to make the group better as a whole and help them settle in as well."
The Mustangs seemingly caught lightning in a bottle with the addition of Tarantino as he announced his arrival with two solid performances in net for his team. Head Coach Kenny Orlando is just as excited as everyone else to see the growth of his new goalie and what this season will have in store for him.
"Antonio is a high-character kid who showcases that both in the crease and off the ice. He has been a great teammate through the start of the season and has continued to impress us every time he takes the net. He never gives up on pucks, quits on plays and his desire to get better every day continues to grow."
Adding Tarantino provides another impressive punch in net for this goaltending class. The '02 gamer knows that his signing is just the beginning though and vows to continue to fight for his chance when his name gets called.
"I've always been following Ogden and I know the pedigree of this program. With Herrera, Meure and other former Jr. Sharks who were here, it was an easy choice to come to Ogden. I'm going to fight and keep working hard every practice, every game, and every shot I face."
